First Day Excitement

The ABP Word Cup got off to an exciting start today.  In the Red Group, Leyla’s Wildez and The Snakes earned first round victories while Lavender and Unicorn won their opening matches in the Green Group.  Well done to everyone for a successful first round.  Check your place on the table and see when and where your match is going to be by clicking on your Group’s page above. On Tuesday you will be playing against different teams, so be ready.

On Monday the Blue and Yellow Groups get started.  Here is the schedule and room locations for tomorrow.

Word Cup Kickoff!

The opening matches are finally here! The Red and Green Groups get the ABP Word Cup underway today at 10:50.  There are some exciting match-ups on the schedule and every team wants to get off to a good start.

Each match has as many Quizlet.Live games as you can fit into 15 minutes.  The winner of each game gets two points and the second place team gets 1 point.  The team with the most points in the match is the match winner and gets 2 more bonus points.

The Red Group matches are in MIS-1-13 and MIS-1-16.  The Green Group matches are in FIS-1-21 and FIS-1-22.

Its Time to Play

The Word Cup registration is now closed and it is almost time for the games to begin.  Every team has been put into a group with 7 or 8 teams.  There are four groups, the Red Group, Green Group, Blue Group and Yellow Group.

Please click on your group's color at the top of this page to find out your schedule for the Word Cup.  The Red and Green Groups have their first matches on Sunday at 10:50.  The Blue and Yellow Groups have their first matches on Monday at 10:50.  You can also see your standing in the group after every match.

The two best teams from each group will play in the finals.  Good Luck!

You may have played Quizlet Live with your class, but it is important to know these special rules for the ABP World Cup.  Watch this short video to make sure you don't get any yellow or red cards.

Get Ready to Play

If you signed up for the game, now it is time to start your pre-tournament training.  To help you get ready, here are the words that you will see in your first match.  They are a mix of EGAP 3 words from Unit 1, Unit 2 and Unit 3 plus some words from the EGAP 2 list.  Keep using your vocabulary app and learning the Unit 3 words this week, but if you really want to win the Word Cup, you should review these words too.  Then your team will be on its way to lifting the Word Cup Trophy.  Good Luck!

The Word Cup is Here!

Welcome to the first ever ABP Word Cup!  Have you ever wanted to feel the joy of lifting a trophy or winning a medal?  Do you like participating in fun activities with your friends and classmates?  Do you want to improve your vocabulary and become a better student?  Then this game is for you!

REGISTER TO PLAY

The ABP Word Cup was designed for every EGAP 3 student at Zayed University.  The game is a giant tournament, like the FIFA World Cup.  Every team will get to play three matches during the break time between September 30th and October 7th.  Each match is 15-minutes long and teams score points in each match.  The best teams will keep playing for the trophy and winners' medals.  The Word Cup Final and trophy presentation will be on October 11th.

In each match, teams will compete in Quizlet Live games for 15 minutes.  If you haven’t played Quizlet Live before, you will love it.  Quizlet Live games will use either English definitions or Arabic translations.  Each game will use EGAP 3 vocabulary words that you have already learned and a few EGAP 2 words.  We will post the words for your matches on this website before you play, so if you want to win, your team will have time to study and prepare.

You will not have a match every day.  Matches will be played at 10:55 and 11:15, so you will have plenty of time to enjoy your break and get something to eat before your afternoon class.

What should you do now?  Make a team and sign up!  Your team can have three or four members.  You must have three people on the day of your matches. So, it is a good idea to have four on your team, in case someone is absent on your match day.  Your teammates do not have to be in your EGAP 3 class.  If you have friends from school that are in a different section, you can make a team with them.  When you sign up, please keep two things in mind.  1) Everyone must be in an EGAP 3 class and 2) you can only be on one team.
